the great tomato

 tomato.jpg

i am sad to say that we have not been privi to picking our own home grown tomatoes this year. we haven't had any, not a one from our 10 + plants! we normally have a bumper crop, so much so, that we always roast and freeze them away for a summer time dish in the winter.  i think they are suffering from heat stroke like the rest of us. although, the mornings and evening are beginning to become quite pleasant again here in austin so i am hopeful to find some of these red gems appear come fall. so, if any of you out there are enjoying some home-grown and hand picked tomatoes this year have one for me!!

this image is from a really wonderful farm food blog called brooklyn farm.  enjoy!

tahini sandwich

tahini-sam.jpg

i have been feeling behind in the studio lately and am trying to prepare a bit for the holidays as well as work on wholesale orders.  so, i have been in the studio working long fulfilled hours. one day last week i threw this together at a loss for what to make and it has been my go to lunch pretty much all week.

grilled tahini sandwich:

2 slices of bread with a light skim of butter on one side of each piece : tahini : hot sauce : salt

i always put about 8-10 drops of hot sauce (but i love spicy food so feel free to skip the snauce) on the tahini (thin layer) and add a tiny pinch of salt and brown the sandwich on each side in a dry skillet. thought you might enjoy :-D yummy with salad, soup or a handful of sweet 100's. yum!!!

i saw one of these in jadeite a couple weeks ago at a fantastic antique store in belleville, illinois called keihl's. i would be happy to fill it with lemon.

carrion bloom

carrion-plant.jpg carrion.jpg

this bloom is incredible. our friends, eric and rachel, gave us this carrion plant before they moved to new york last month and it put on this stellar bloom yesterday. i've never seen a carrion bloom before. i was thrilled. i wish i would have taken the camera outside before it opened.  earlier in the day, on my way to doing something i else i glanced over and noticed it looked like a balloon and just a few hours later it looked like this. i hope to capture the balloon pod phase in a photo next time around.
