a few images i took wearing my work to show scale and how it looks on the body.....i have uploaded these to my etsy listings. i think it's important for customers who have not seen my work at shows to have a visual reference as to how it looks on. i have had this on my to-do list for quite some time and am happy that i have a jump start on it!

teeth

teeth.jpg

i love the idea of creating a necklace or ring using teeth or just one tooth from maybe a loved one like your witty and charming five year old, a found animal tooth, or from your special furry friend. i have been making jewelry out of found, random and peculiar things since i started making jewelry about 10 years ago. i don't think teeth would be to much of a stretch.  i have used dryer lint, animal fur, rubber grapes, construction paper, moss, antler, plastic from doll shoes, bouncy balls, melmac, just to name a few.  i have some teeth of nemo's that i have been finding about the house lately which has renewed my inspiration for teeth in jewelry.

any takers for a bizarre and sweetly sentimental piece of jewelry.... any brave and slightly twisted characters out there up for the challenge?? lemme know.....

thought i would introduce you to my studio mate, nemo. we like to call him neems, whammo, mr. moustache,  meemo and no sir!!!!  he is quite a little entertainer most of the time but when i'm in the studio working he likes to curl up right under my chair. when i roll around to switch from solder station to bench work he repositions....

vintage charm...

charm-bracelet2.jpg

charm-bracelet.jpg

i am in love with this vintage charm bracelet from classic style. i have never seen one so filled up with experiences and adventures. i fondly remember my great grandma wearing her collected charms on a similar bracelet.  i have a soft spot for vintage charm bracelets. and vintage lockets.  my aunt kathy always had on a locket and i loved nothing more than to sit on her lap and peek into her little locket.  at a very young age i already had an affinity for tiny treasured space.

heart strings...

eraers.jpg

this stack of erasers tugged at my heart strings.  when i was little i had an eraser collection. i also had an interest in taking plain jane erasers like these pictured and make "eraser dust" that i kept for special projects but mostly i loved having the eraser dust in a flip top container just because =)

morel asparagus gnocchi

morels.jpg

chris and i splurged on morel mushrooms the other nite since we spotted them on super sale. they normally sell for $40 + a pound, but we nabbed 'em for $14.99/lb.  back in the day, we would go hunting for morels all the time when we were in school at SIUE.  the woods were right across from the art department so we would just zip across the road and go foraging and see if we could find these discreet woodland treasures. we bought less then a pound and it was still enough to make this tasty dish. i saw this recipe about a year ago and then promptly forgot it until we saw 'em at wholeee the other nite.

MOREL ASPARAGUS GNOCCHI

2 T olive oil 2-9oz packages fresh gnocchi 3-5 fresh morels, halved (sub any wild mushroom) 1-bundle of asparagus washed and dried-cut into 1" sections...removing about 2" at the bottom and discard the tough ends. 1 roasted red pepper or about a 1/4 cup 1 can water packed artichoke hearts, sliced 1/8 tsp salt, plus more for seasoning black pepper

slice morels into manageable pieces. heat pan and saute morels with a couple teaspoons of olive oil. set aside. add asparagus, roasted pepper, and artichoke hearts to the pan, add another small splash of olive oil if you wish. Add 1/8 tsp salt to season. saute for 2-3 minutes until tender, remove from pan and set aside. while the pan is still hot, add the raw gnocchi and enough oil to coat well. cook for 3 or 4 minutes until golden on all sides and a bit puffy. once cooked through, add the asparagus, artichokes, and peppers back to the pan and toss together. add salt and pepper to taste. add the cooked morel mushrooms to the top before serving.

after making this recipe i would really love to learn how to make homemade gnocchi....especially sweet potato gnocchi. i'll share the recipe if it turns out yummy!!

i adapted this recipe from veganyumyum's site.

P.S.--i have been known to trade jewelry for freshly picked morels if anyone out there might be so inclined come spring =) contact me if your interested

just peachy!

peaches.jpg

i came back from the art and air art festival in st. louis to a boat load of peaches.  chris had been out to visit his folks and this year for the first time ever they have peaches on their tree.  yay!!  every year since the tree has been planted (7 years ago) the weather gets nice in the spring and the blooms arrive and then frost strikes and burns off the blooms.  they are the smallest and mightiest peaches i have ever had. the peaches range in size a quarter to about the size of a golf ball. they are so sweet, yummy and beautiful. i am thrilled to offer a helping hand, or belly, in the consumption department. yum yum!!!!
