clean-up

well, it's way past THAT time for me, clean-up time studio style!!!! for any of you who have seen my "busting at the seams, i am surprised it can still hang on the wall, crap piled everywhere jewelry bench" you know what i am talking about, and if you haven't seen it....my husband, chris doesn't lovingly call me "crap hound" for no reason. motivated by my very skilled and generous hubby who made me a brand spankin' new soldering station while i was in st. louis, i now have a "new", fresh, clean, and ORGANIZED studio to work in....yippy!!!!! drum roll please....... Ta Dah..................

here is a 360 degree view.........

thankyou.thankyou.thankyou

thank you to everyone that came out to the webster groves's art and air art festival. considering it was crazy hot that weekend and the storms/tornado alarms caused us to cancel the show on friday nite, it was really great to see you all on saturday and sunday. thanks for braving the heat and making my weekend much more enjoyable by stopping in to say hi, catch up and help pass the time. it is always an amazing and heart warming experience to do this show since i am from the st. louis area and my history is there. i know and see so many amazing people from my past. thanks for offering your support; for your time and effort, i am truly grateful. i hope you all enjoyed the show. oh, thanks to me pops for helping me set up (in the questionable weather) and teaching me how to tie those invaluable knots with the bailing twine to help weight my booth......and for seconds, thanks for being "older"....you know what i mean :O)

thrift or bust...SVDP in st. louis

svdp.jpg here's a pic of "my scores" at my all time favorite thrift store in st. louis.  st. vincent de paul thrift store on forest park blvd. is the best.......i llllllove going there when i go home.  that was my first stop in town after i dropped my mom off at work since she picked me up on her lunch break.......thanks ma!!  she would have gone with me if she would have been off work (yep, i get it honestly...from my mom and dad both) i am loving this color family....grey, creme, peachpink.....yum!!!  this could be my next triple pendant color family.

newsflash.....i love old luggage, old tupperware and anything peachypink and plasticky....the grey suitcase i needed for my booth display to put all my bags, pliers, receipt book and whatnots in for the show.   the tupperware container, well i just couldn't resist...the pie slice tupperware container, come on!!!!!!  and, the purse.....i picked up at first thinking it would make great pillow making materials for my "float" pillow earrings....sorry folks, i can't bear to cut into this gem.

puffy fluffy whiteness

clouds.jpg no sooner than i sat down in my seat on the plane and buckled myself in i passed out. this is high relaxation time for because i am away from my studio and seriously can no longer make work.......this is always a big relief to know that i can just "be still" for awhile. so i promptly fell asleep before the wheels of the plane even left the ground. i am always bummed out when there is a loud speaker announcement on the plane........how many times can i really wake up from the P.A. announcement and actually fall back to sleep.....about seven times, i guess. my family has laughed at me since i was very little for being able to sleep just about anywhere. i had a straight shot flight just briefly stopping in houston to pick up a few other sky bunnies and off to st. louis we go.

the beautiful serene image of whiteness was taken out the window of the plane as i woke from my sleep. my emotion quickly went from frustration to joy. i was annoyed at the realization that my sleep would be continuously interrupted by very loud announcements "it is safe to move about the cabin", "please do not form a line at the lavatory" but when i opened my eyes and saw this amazing view my heart was quickly filled with joy when i saw the blanket of clouds.

this picture reminds me of the quilt that i would like to make with my grandmother some day. an all white quilt with white stitching.......most quilts are really amazing and beautiful with color and pattern but i would like to make a quilt where the emphasis is on all the work that is put into it, the quilting itself. on the colorful quilts the stitching gets lost.

red polyp

redlentildouble.jpg here's one more polyp piece. the red polyp double pendant.....with the added stitching detail. i love those stitches. i can't wait until i get back from the art and air show so i can make more. i am getting down to the wire before take off. i leave early wednesday morning. now i am in the photographing, pricing, waxing & packing phase.

carrot juice

carrotjuice.jpg this is my new favorite drink.

to make this drink, using a juicer...juice up:

4-5 carrots

4-5 celery stalks

a piece of ginger about 2 inches long

pour above juice in cup and mix in 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne.......

this drink is sweet, peppery and spicy. this is not for the faint of heart....if you don't like spicy things, you might want to try less celery and ginger and omit the cayenne.

ChEers!!!!!!

sara-012-small.jpg new and exciting news for me personally.......the studio where i practice bikram yoga is expanding. YiPpY!!!!!!!!!!!!! which essentially means more classes, more incredible instructors, a juice bar, a store with yoga clothes, art work by the students and a special case just for my jewelry. i am so excited. this place has changed my life in such a big way. if anyone out there is at all interested in yoga and has never tried it i highly recommend bikram yoga. to learn more about bikram yoga watch the clip below (you'll have to copy and paste the link into the browser since i can't figure out how to add a link within the text yet) my practice has given me a clear mind and the ability to let go of the little fussy stuff & and some big stuff too....not to mention that i feel better & stronger than ever before. when i leave class i feel like every cell in my body is alive, awake, and doing the happy dance. swooper!!!!

cut and paste the link below to see a clip from a bikram yoga class here in austin at yogagroove. the instructor in the clip is rebecca jordan. since taking class at yogagroove, she has become a true inspiration and good friend of mine.

the picture above is of sara eubanks another friend and instructor at yogagroove. this is sara's amazing version of the standing bow pulling pose. that is simply beautiful!!!! http://www.kvue.com/video/local-index.html?nvid=235020&shu=1

the website for the studio is www.yogagroove.com

sewnmetal2...

orangecollagehorizontal.jpg the second sewn piece in the horizontal design.......sterling, vintage plastic cabochon, vintage glass beads & thread.

sewnmetal....

brownhorizontal.jpg i just finished a handful of new pieces for the art and air art festival in st. louis, mo. i leave on wednesday to head up there.. ..yippy, i am so excited. it's always a super fun show. it will be great to see my family, some friends from college & other friend i have made thru the art fair circuit. i hope the weather holds.....it can be a bit tricky weather-wise up there at this time of year for the outdoor shows.

this is a brand new design with a sewn metal detail that i am exploring. i have wanted to make some necklaces with stitched metal elements since i made the orange sewn ring box back in february......so here is the first.

sterling, polymer clay, vintage glass & thread

sweet & swanky cup

cup.jpg our good friends from edwardsville (where chris and i went to school) rick dunn and kirsten jacobsen came down for the art of the pot tour as well. rick was one of the participating artist's this year. they both make incredible pots and it was a great time to hang out with them here in austin since they had never been before. you can find his contact info on the art of the pot website if you can't live without a swell mug like this one.

i couldn't :O) www.artofthepot.com

rick also made the lidded jar in the background of the carrot juice photo above.  the one with the pale blue lid and terracotta colored bottom.

orange yum

cup2.jpg my friend trish brought me a new delish smoothie last night. it was uber yummie and orange...personal perfection

here's the ingredients:

1 1/2 cup of peaches

1 1/2 cup of pineapple

4 carrots

1 inch piece of ginger

and blend it all up....cheers!!

the sweet little cups are from an artist named bernadette curran.  i couldn't decide between the bunny and the lil' pig....so i got em both :O) her work is amazing not to mention she is about as sweet as they come. chris and i bought these from her during the art of the pot tour a couple weeks ago. the art of the pot tour is a really great thing that happens in austin on mother's day weekend. 4 local austin potter's open their studios featuring their work the work 0f 2-4 other invited national potter's to show and sell their work. the patron's can drive to each location and check out the studio, meet the artists and buy pots....it doesn't get any better than that!!! check out the details at www.artofthepot.com. if your in austin you can put it on your hit list for next year.

birdcage earrings

2earrings.jpg these icy sage green beads look yummy with the metal birdcage design. and these need to be sanded still....sometimes i am 6 and 6 on whether i should leave the gunmetal oxidized surface. hmmmm........especially in the previous pic of the opal chandelier.

1earrings.jpg new earrings.  i haven't sanded them to bring back the silver surface yet...but i love the slightly ivory opal look to these beads :O)
