i've been trying to upload the little video of me attempting to play my brand spankin' new ukulele. chris bought it for me for our anniversary. i have been wanting one for a few months now and have just been putting it off. i'm really terrible at it but it is super fun with a side of frustration at times. i have been learning how to play "happy birthday to you" which is going pretty well, but forget about putting multiple fingers on different chords for the same note. i guess, my hands after setting stones and being scrunched up for the last ten years don't really want to spread out and dance alone :O) i guess a ton of practice and maybe a few lessons will push me along a bit. in the mean time, chris and i will continue to crack each other up with some really bad but way hilarious lyrics about each other and other funny stuff that we encounter everyday. thanks babe, for giving me something that will continue to broaden and continue our laugh track :O) laura freeman and her song "orange" off of her color wheel album is what inspired me to want a ukulele. she sang it for me at the handmade austin women show over the summer.

below is a picture of me giving "happy birthday" a whirl......

idaho.jpg

one of my favorite pics. of chris and i.  we were on our way to sun valley, idaho for an art festival a couple summers ago.  we decided it would be great to camp out of the back of our truck the whole way there and back.  hahahahahaah!!!  we did have a great time, but we haven't done that again since then :O)  this photo was taken after i decided that i wanted to get in the back, stretch out and take a nap.  boy, was i mistaken.  this is not like back when i was seven and my sister and i would travel in the back of the truck with all of our cool new games mom and dad bought us, describe the images we saw in the paint splotches on the ceiling of the camper shell and nap to our little hearts content.  nope, not the same gig.  after about fifteen minutes of driving thru a little town thru all the stoplights i was completely over it.  so i knocked on the glass, since the truck doesn't have the ever so handy sliding window that pops had and chris laughed at me......it was really funny!!!!  happy 4th babe!!!

excuse me.......

since my return from ann arbor i have been feeling a bit uninspired, well more unmotivated....i have tons of stuff i would like to make but not much umpf to get me in there......not sure if it's knowing that i don't have any other big travel shows to venture to (unless i do one in new york in december) or if i'm just having trouble getting back into the studio groove. today was a day where nothing really went wrong but things just didn't feel quite right either (which usually just means i need to go to yoga). i typically struggle getting back in the studio swing after a big show so this is not new. so after a wheel spinning early studio day i really needed this laugh.  i wanted to share the love.  guess my jeans are lacking a little somethin' hahaha!! artfart.jpg

couch.sewing.movie

today was a swell day hanging on the couch doing some handi-work and watching a movie. i sewed some little pillows for some "float" pillow earrings. i am loving the brown plastic with the avocado green thread. i decided on the green thread because i have a pair of brown capris that i love to wear with an avocado green polyblend shirt i got at a thrift store. when wearing said outfit i feel like a tree. so these earrings are tree/wardrobe inspired :O) the red pillows i wanted to use a color of thread that was really vibrant. i was feeling the deep red was really fall feeling in color and i wanted to excite it up a bit. that led me on the path to choose the electric reddie color for the thread. i'm feeling their pep!!!! the brown plastic is from a cleaners zip-up garment bag and the red is from an estee lauder bag. yeah, some days i love being productive while sitting on the couch. pillows.jpg

good friday......

uber yes, uber fun.....etsy, etsy, etsy. i woke up and checked my email and then went to the etsy home page(yep, my morning ritual).......viola, i'm featured on the home page thanks to beth (eliwill). thanks so much girl.....what a way to start off the friday. i love the black paper lace and the acid green leg warmers. do you make things? do you wish you made things? would you like to sell them? do you wish you had an online presence to sell you funky, cool handmade goods? etsy is the inexpensive and easy answer. they have made it so simple for you to create a profile, and upload your images. it's free to set up your profile and .20 cents to list an item and they take 2 or 3% of the sale price but only after it sells. if you would really love to do this and have read the info and are still stumped, email me and i can walk ya thru it. it's worth it if your interested in selling a few things, or have a deadline, goal or motivation to make things. believe me, if i never applied to my first art festival at laumeier sculpture park back in 2001 i would probably still be working at the bakery decorating birthday and wedding cakes :O) you may be thinking, what's the benefit there are a gazillion crafters and diy's on etsy? i have sold to several customers out of the country to europe, japan and canada. my point is, those customers probably would not have found my www.jaimejofisher website. it's also a feel good time to be part of a completely handmade community. the site is super clever in design.....your images are picked and put into treasuries (which is how you get on the home page), people everywhere are looking thru all the time. you can even go and look at a treasury and see how many other people are looking at the same time. so give it a whirl if your at all interested.  okay, that's enough of my etsy infomercial and no they don't pay me :O) i just looove that site and what i represents. here is my etsy page for reference.

well, i'm off to yoga!!!! good friday, sweet peas :O) picture-3.png

pass the doughnuts, grass, doughnuts

what the frick are these (insert more appropriate word). i had to post these crazy moeffers :O) the label on them reads "krispy kreme", "what gives"???? these could only be more hysterical if flowers were growing up between the big and second toe.

okay, apparently these are really being made and only available in london now and soon to go worldwide. my mom's friend janel looked into it and said that they will last up to four months but you have to take care of them, watering them and all. do you have to mow them too??

tahini noodles

tahini-noodles.jpg ingredients:

1/2 lb. of whole wheat spaghetti

2 carrots, peeled and shredded

2 large leaves of swiss chard, chopped in fine strips.

5 small leaves of mint, chopped

6 large leaves of basil, chopped

sesame seeds

tahini sauce: 1/4 cup of tahini 2 T soy sauce or tamari 3 T water 1 T rice vinegar 1tsp dijon mustard 1 T chile garlic sauce 1 T braggs amino acids *1/16 tsp of cayenne pepper 1 T agave nectar or sugar 3 T chia seed gel pinch of salt healthy pinch of black pepper

cook noodles, drain and rinse in cool water to cool down the noodles. add sauce, shredded carrots, mint, and sesame seeds.

if you would like to try a variation of this you can use peanut butter instead of tahini.

sauce is also really delish as bread dip or salad dressing.

note--i make a double of the sauce recipe because i like to have a little extra on the pasta. the recipe will only make enough to lightly coat the noodles. serve with crusty bread and salad.

yums!!

* if you don't like things to spicy omit the cayenne and decrease the amount of chili garlic sauce.

this recipe was adapted from the "nearly raw tahini noodles" recipe on the veganyumyum site. if mine doesn't quite do it for ya you could try hers out.

shell collection

11shells.jpg here is the whole pile of shells that i brought home :O)

1shells.jpg

above are just a few of my favorites. i found 3 white limpet shells which was a huge highlight. one of them is pictured in the lower left corner, the second shell in. it's white & oval shaped with a hole in the top. the ones i use are really blue green, aqua in color. this will make my own personally found and collected limpet reach 6. the first three were at stinson beach in california. yippy!!!! the white branch coral is my other big favorite. i found quite a few of those, but most of them to small for rings......which is what i really like to use the coral for.

"sweet wishes"

i am a huge mark ryden fan. his work portrays a skewed twisted variety of childlike imagery of plushie pets, slabs of meat and youthful angelic subjects. i love the sweet composed with the odd and somewhat disturbing. enjoy his first ever children's book and movie "sweet wishes" by this international art icon.

trish and i fixing the wedding cake. when the band was testing there equipment the vibration of the floor made the ornament fall down the side. we patched it with some flowers and filled in some of the icing holes. all that decorating birthday and wedding cakes at mcarthur's in st. louis wasn't all for not.

carly...jade's sister and our super good friend was a singing diva that night. it was breath taking and a full on goose bump moment to hear her sing again.

erin working it on the dance floor with her backward bend. i am certain she is the most fun loving person i have ever met. she too is a metalsmith/jewelry designer and made robert's wedding ring. i have just gotten to know her a bit more recently and am looking forward to her moving back to austin so we can continue laughing.

she get's the best dip of the night award. all that bikram yoga comes in handy when you least expect it :O)

beachy.beach

it was sheer pleasure being at st. pete beach. yeah, new beach/ocean goodies for my work!!! i think just seeing, hearing and feeling the ocean is good for the soul :O) abeach.jpg

we have arrived.....the beach is so beautiful at dusk. i felt like a little kid, especially when i walked upon......

ashellpile.jpg

all of these...pure bliss

amebeach.jpg

i had about 6 good hours picking up treasures, either for my work or just to have in my collection of found objects. the next day i wore a skirt and my legs got super burnt. the sunscreen didn't quite do the trick. i'm still slathering on the coconut oil to get the heat to come out of it, but oh it was worth it.

aolivesnail.jpg

chris found this beautiful olive shell. he was pscyhed and continued to find several others throughout the weekend. he was zipping around all over chris' hand. it was really amazing to watch. every once in a while it would squirt water out....i think he was trying to tell us something. he set the lil' creature free after i could snap a pic of 'em.

front page excitement

yeah, i am on the front page of etsy this morning. yippy! thanks monicaj. i just got back into town from st. pete beach with chris in the wee hours of the morning. what a yippity thing to wake up to. we went there for our best friends jade and robert's wedding. it was such an amazing and beautiful time with many laughs, cries, & a rug cutting, feel good time. we were pretty tired when we got home but it was so worth spending the extra time with the gang yesterday and a bit more time collecting shells on the beach. i have three bags full of goodies to use in my work if the mood suits me. it felt good all the way down to my toes to splash around in the water and kick in the sand. i'll post some pics in a bit. thanks again for the front page treasury monicaj!!!!!!!!

oh if you have never searched etsy before.....quick, go check it out.   my etsy page is here.  i am so happy to be part of etsy.  it is a wonderful online, handi-craft community.....everything from DIY to high end craft. they truly have something for every one.....and apparently to many things just for me....hahahahaha!!

ann arbor, thank you...

YEAH!!! ann arbor was great and i so enjoyed talking with curious patrons, customers and all my art fair buddies as well as making some new ones. thanks to all of you who dropped by for a visit. i hope to see you all next yeari have a few pics from the show......

booth.jpg

my booth

ben.jpg

my friend ben playing "99 red balloons" on his brand new (to him) vintage accordion....it made me think of my mom-in-law, pat. she used to play one :O)

baby-shoes.jpg

some sweet little girl came in my booth and talked with me about visiting her aunt in new york and helping her make jewelry. she had on these great little ice cream shoes and i couldn't resist snapping this photo (with her mom's permission). she was carrying around a little cup of pretzels and just talking away. she was too sweet.

on another note, a woman came in my booth later that day with a schnazzy pair of black sandals on and a fabulous pedicure in a color scheme that i used growing up. each toenail was painted a different color....all pale pale opaque easter egg colors: pink, yellow, green, blue, purple. i was so excited when i saw them that i jumped up with my camera and ask the woman if i could snap a photo of them. i could tell by the look on her face that she was afraid of my request and she high-tailed it out of my booth saying "no thank you". i really didn't mean any harm. i cracked up!!!

oh, it's so good to be home...i've had a long nap (since i got up at 4:00am to catch my plane home), drank some kombucha, ate an enormous salad with my fave balsamic vinegar dressing and am feeling the comforts of home. it was such an incredible adventure in ann arbor, but i am a happy girl to be back home.  i'll feel even better tomorrow after i go to yoga. i've had a week off and my body (AND MIND) are missing it :O)

hope you had a great weekend too.
